Even though Spirit Airlines MAD Terminal is a basic airline, the experience of flying with them from Madrid Airport was surprisingly seamless. Clear signage and friendly airport employees made it easy for me to find my way about the airport when I arrived a few hours before departure. I had already checked in online, which I strongly suggest since it let me avoid additional fees and saved me time at the airport. There was a line, but it moved really fast in the well-organized bag drop area. Spirit’s baggage policy is very strict, so I made sure in advance to measure and weigh everything to avoid surprise fees. After dropping off my luggage, I passed through security, which was efficient and professional, and then had time to explore some of the airport’s food and shopping options. There were plenty of cafés and grab-and-go eateries where I picked up a quick sandwich and coffee. The seating near the gate was clean and well-maintained, and there were power outlets available for charging devices. Boarding was handled in groups, and announcements were clear and timely. Once on board, the aircraft was clean and the crew professional. The seating was basic but comfortable enough for a short flight. As expected, there were no free snacks or in-flight entertainment, but I was prepared with my own food and downloaded shows. The flight departed and landed on time, and after disembarking, I found it easy to get through immigration and locate the baggage claim area. My luggage arrived without delay, and I quickly found transportation options to head into the city. Overall, my Spirit Airlines experience from Madrid was efficient, affordable, and exactly what I hoped for from a budget airline, especially when you’re aware of their policies and plan accordingly.
