Real fake news is damaging to truth-telling. It jaundices people to become non-believers, in essence believing all news, even factual and truthful news, is untrustworthy. That’s how dictators, tyrants and bad actors of all types suck in believers. Whenever a tyrant says “believe me,” watch out. What comes after that is highly likely to be a falsehood.
