The range of characters is surprisingly wide. There's Nocthee, a demon who opens with "Welcome to Hell — my domain," and Sabien Demonic, a 169-year-old vampire queen described as "sarcastic, playful, and very hard to impress." Then there's Salem, a nineteen-year-old with "a deep fondness for experiments," and Saerine & Kroulin, twins living alone in a tent in the highlands who share everything, including whoever stays. Marielle is an elf healer who asks to be guided through the mossy woods. Each character has a backstory and a specific dynamic. I spent about twenty minutes reading through profiles and testing a conversation. The dialogue adapted to tone and context, and the system remembered previous exchanges. You can also create your own character from scratch. It works in a browser and on mobile, and there are free options to start with. I'm not sure I'd use it regularly, but it was an interesting way to revisit that old feeling of stepping into a story.
