I have what I believe to be a 58’ or 59’ Borgward Isabella engine for sale. This engine does run and has all the parts that would have come with it after being taken out of a Borgward.
Make no mistake about it, this is a “redneck rebuild.” I found this engine in a barn, it likely sat for at least two or three decades, maybe more. The engine was completely seized up and needed some serious attention. I have completely overhauled the engine… freed up the piston rings, honed the cylinders, cleaned up the cam and crank shaft, cleaned out the oil pump and sump, cleaned up the values and reseated them, got everything moving again, rebuilt the carb, and so on and so forth. The only parts that were purchased and used include, a complete gasket set for both the engine and carburetor, points, and a rotor cap. The bellhousing and the engine’s transmission are not available.
This is not a “drop in and drive” engine but has great potential. The cylinders look remarkably nice and the internals are all in decent shape (see pictures). The engine has really nice compression.
Included below is a link to a video of the Borgward engine running for the first time in a long while:
Running a little better…
And a link to a craigslist add for the pictures:
