Hello Fellow Borgward Enthusiasts,

I wanted to give an update for those of you who know, and a heads up for those of you who might not know yet, the plans for our joint US/European Fall Meet in Santa Barbara, CA are coming together.

I am sending this out with some basic information so that people can make travel arrangements.

We will be a larger group this time, as we will be joined by the 14 Borgwards from Europe at the conclusion of their five thousand mile USA tour!

The Meet will take place Thursday October 12th through Sunday the 15th.

We have picked the host hotel, The Lemon Tree Inn, and secured a group rate. Kat and I visited several hotels in the area last September and felt The Lemon Tree has a nice Santa Barbara flavor, with good communal gathering areas and a parking situation that should allow for display and socializing around our vehicles. In addition, the grounds are lovely with a nicely centralized pool.

To receive the group discounted rate, CALL and use the code "Borgward". (You cannot book with this code online.)
The rate is tiered 100/135/150 for the Thurs/Fri/Sat for a total of $385 (this is good for Santa Barbara, thanks to the Inn Manager, Braulio!). Be sure to use the code, the non group rate is $565.

The hotel encourages people to book soon as they will sell out before our event.

Here is a brief summary of the itinerary:

Thursday 10/12: Those driving out to meet the end of the Route 66 tour expect to arrive from Barstow in the mid afternoon, check in, informal dinner downtown at the Brathaus.

Friday 10/13: Morning local drive, sights of Santa Barbara, ending in nearby coastal community. Afternoon on your own to explore. Evening special outdoor dinner on the bluff overlooking the ocean.

Saturday 10/14: Drive through the Santa Ynez Mountains for a wine tasting event and lunch. Rest of the afternoon to explore. Return at your leisure along the iconic California Coast highway. Evening Banquet dinner under the stars at our hotel.

Sunday 10/15: Farewell Breakfast. End of organized meet. Rest of the day to explore or travel. Europeans depart for Los Angeles

Some members of the California Club will be driving out to meet the arriving Europeans along their route in Kingman, AZ on Oct 10th and Barstow on Oct 11th.
Thursday the 12th we will depart Barstow to arrive in Santa Barbara mid afternoon.
Anyone is welcome to come and join our "welcoming party" either in Kingman or Barstow.

I will send more specifics and updates as time gets closer and things are more nailed down.

Hopefully this will give anyone who is experiencing a little winter funk something to look forward to. Hope to see everyone in Santa Barbara this fall!
