Dear Mr. O’Brien:
We have put about 9,000 miles on our Borgward and are quite happy with her, not a bit of trouble – even after the bumps and ruts the Yugoslavians call a main highway. She (Miss Isabella) climbed the Alps, ran through mobs of bicycles in little French towns, sped along the Autobahns and rode in the hold of the ship between Italy & Greece without hazard.
Yes, everything was fine until I tried to get your little green slip signed at the German border. We had to convince the man that all the paper would do was return our deposit…not get him in trouble – nor the German govt. and that we wouldn’t leave his country until it was stamped and signed. It wasn’t very easy, but we were successful.
The first time I crossed they said I didn’t need it signed.
