AID TO THE CHURCH IN NEED MOURNS FOR VICTOR TARASEVICH
Germany 2. April. Aid to the Church in Need was informed today that the Editor-in-chief of the Moscow based news agency "Blagovest Info", Victor Tarrasevich and his brother Juri were shot and killed in February in Poland near the border with Germany. Apparently, while on their way back from Germany to Russia both men were the victims of a robbery: Victor died from a bullet wound in the head, Yuri from two bullet wounds in the chest. Victor’s car and all valuables have disappeared. This is what a Polish police officer told Victor’s widow Lioudmila by telephone on March 28. Both brothers were married; Victor is the father of two children and Yuri the father of three.
As founder and editor in-chief of "Blagovest Info", Victor Tarrasevich had contributed enormously to the ecumenical dialogue among Catholics and Orthodox. Thus, he was highly respected by both Churches. When Victor was a student of the Brussels based Robert Schuman School of Journalism he was holder of an Aid to the Church in Need scholarship; the same international Catholic charity supported the work of "Blagovest Info" from its very beginning.
