VA Claim under PACT act

I made contact with the VFW's Veteran's Service Officer at the Kansas City VA Hospital a week ago. Her name Jenny Rosales-Wolfgeher. Her husband, Joe Wolfgeher, is another VFW VSO at the KC VA hospital located at Linwood and Van Brunt.

Very easy to work with and she completed a claim for my 1969-1970 Takhli service with Type II Diabetes as the principal claim. Took about 50 minutes at her desk. She knows her stuff. She said from two weeks to one year for a decision but coming under the "presumptive" provisions of the PACT act should facilitate the claim.

VA may order its own exams for some elements of the claim so this is just the beginning of the process.

I'd definitely get assistance if filing a claim. An experienced VSO has filed many claims and knows the ropes and wording.

Anybody getting much response from the VA on their claims? I am still waiting after about 10 months.I don't know what my hurry is only left there "54+ years ago"!

John, I only sent claim in June 1st under PACT act with the help from a VFW Veteran's Service Officer. Dont expent any decision yet.

I have checked my online VA Portal for a status and it continues to show that no claim has been submitted. I called the VSO, and she said it was submitted but the portal is "messed up" and not showing me current info. She sent me the documentation from her direct channels indicating it was submitted and received ok.

This you work with a VSO or go it alone? Is your VA portal showing anything about the status?

For everyone's info there is a deadline in mid Aug for submitting in order to receive the back benefits so you don't want to miss out on a year's back Disability benefit by missing that deadline.

Monday, Aug 14th. 2023 is the extended deadline for submitting a new claim under the PACT Act in order to be eligible for retroactive benefits to Aug 2022.

There is a provision for filing an "Intent to File" even if you cannot complete a full application Monday. Get help from a Veterans Service Officer with VFW, DAV or American Legion. Many medical conditions are now given presumptive status for Thai vets as has been the case for Vietnam "Boots on the Ground" vets.

If you miss Monday's deadline apply anyway. Benefits going forward are still valuable and liftetime. Google "Veterans Administration PACT Act" for info if this topic is new to you.

This is a major victory for Thai vets and the Orange Envelope campaign of several years ago.
