I'm planning a trip to Thailand and Takhli this November 2018 and would like to know if anyone has done the same and how to get access to the base. I was Crew Chief on 59-1743 RM F-105 1969 - 70. Thanks!

Hi Paul. I also was interested in visiting Takhli (aircraft mechanic 1966-67) about a year or so back. Somehow (can't remember how) I was able to make contact with a military officer stationed in Thailand who emailed me that that probably I would not be allowed to get on the base. I got the impression that the base was or still is a Black Site.
My wife are planning a trip this Fall/Winter to Vietnam/Thailand. We plan of seeing Takhli it possible. Good Luck. Pete

I was able to go back to Takhli in the 80s and relive the glory days of the 474th Roadrunners 72-74. I had a Thai friend who sweet talked us into the base. Very little left you would recognize, maybe base ops, chapel, and a little of the old Thai BX. There was a sq of F-5s there then. Dont know now. The Takhli strip with all the dives is long gone, with sleepy businesses taking their place. A recent trip to NKP to relive my USSAG/7th AF tour 73-74 was a total bust. Nothing, nothing left. Udorn was better but a shell of its former self (a real powerhouse in the day). There are a number of retirees there but little going on beyond Sing Ha and retread war stories. Sad, but time marches on. Best to you all. Joe
