Hi everyone!

I am daughter of John E. Odom Sr., who served in Takhli Thailand with the 355th. He worked in A&E and FMS.
I am looking for info. regarding the flights he would have had to take from Travis AFB in order to get to Takhli Thailand....

He was sent to Hamilton AFB CA for M16 training then to Travis AFB for flight overseas CA and was then sent overseas with destination of Takhli Thailand.. I was wondering.. can you take a non stop flight directly into Thailand with no stops first for refueling purposes?

im trying to prove boots ...

Well, some of you may know me from Mike Dunn's site.. Im susie.... hoping all of you are doing well and hoping you are all nice and warm... it snowed here yesterday... but should be getting warmer this week...

Susie , boots, from what I been told is almost impossible to prove without paperwork. From Travis Our flight stopped in Hawaii for fuel then direct to Thailand. You can use buddy letters but they have to have prove also. Most thai vets now are using exposure to herbicles NOT agent orange. Only problem is , your mos must show you worked on or near flightline everyday. Look up on the web "VA CP Bulletin May 2010 " for herbicle exposure in Thai.

Thank you for the inf regarding how to file so that the va would consider and also about the flight pattern. That is what I was interested in finding out as I was curious how the flights would have gotten directly into Thailand.

That makes sense because I recall Dad speaking of HI

Also. I was wondering about bronze service star. He was awarded during a two week period listed under combat section of one of his military forms I was reviewing

Would you or anyone here know why the bronze star would be awarded and mentioned under combat

Daddy was there feb of 67 to feb 68

Suzie, your mother should rquest your dads military records from St Louis. His records should have a letter that normal goes with expanding why he received a medal. Also its good to know what the gov knows if you file a claim. There are over 800,000 claims on file for VA action, so it will be several years before your dads claim will be decided, which sucks. Takes about 5 months to receive his records. Take your time filing and read the internet on VA claims from Thailand. You will learn alot. Mary just put up a site that shows many new citations awarded to vets. good luck. Steve

Thank you so much for your feedback. It feels good that others care and are concerned .

I have researched for this claim for two years I've met alot of wonderful veterans and their family members and also widows like my Mama

Yes over the past several months I have studied about 100 or more citations

I've got base maps , buddy statements ordered records from everywhere including two sets from national archives and recvd a no records from dfas for pay and voucher records

I have studied the air offensive operations to see what that was about and studied dads 355 th unit for the time period he was there

Well. I've done lots and probably have lots more to do

Now the one thing I haven't done is notify the government unless you mean my congressman and state rep for help
Which I've also done

I am up for any other suggestions daddy passed away April 2010. I've been working on trying to find inf since may 2010

I have been to one hearing and waiting to get the decision

In meantime I'm writing dfas again just to see if they can find anything this time. Also still looking for someone whose have known daddy

Susie, i was stationed at takhli from1967-1968 with the 333 TFS. What unit was he with? My Bird was 409 single seat F105

yes... Daddy was there from February 67- Feb 68

He was in the 355th TFW... he worked in areas like the FMS and A&E...

I was hoping to find others who could recall him... Now, I must say that he did pass away on April 18,2010.... So.. I am searching for anyone who knew him so that I can help my Mama with her DIC claim that was denied...

I am looking to research information about his job and where exactly on the base he could have been exposed to herbicides...

I hope that all is well with you Howie! Do you still pilot? I have always loved to fly and hope that one day I will be able to learn how to fly a small plane... It is on my long term "wish to do list"

I use to have a job where I got to travel a good bit in the states and about 3 times to Canada..

I love being in the clouds.. its heaven to me.. I love looking at the clouds around me and then when ascending or descending I love looking at the earth below...

I am having the pictures i had taken there put on a disk so when i get them i will send you a copy or send you a link so you can view them and tell me if your father is in one of them.
No i don't fly anymore my heart can't take it....lol now all i do is ride and enjoy life.

Do you mean that you can ride in the planes.. but don't really feel comfortable piloting anymore?

Oh how I love to ride in airplanes... I miss my work which allowed me to ride in a plane about every week or every other week...

You have come along way and at this time in your life you should be the one in the seat to enjoy!!!!

Also, yes please please please send me a copy.. let me know when you are ready for my address.. I will send you a postage paid envelope enough to cover the cost for the disk...

Susie, I was at Takhli from March 1967 - March 1968.
I was on RB-66's, so I didn't know your father. I do have a travel voucher that shows our flight from Travis AFB with a stop in Ton Son Nhut, Vietnam. This was a charter flight out of Travis, and this was the common carrier for most of us going to Thailand. I am sure your father had the same route
as we did. Travis, Hawaii, Ton Son Nhut, Bangkok.

You indicated you have Base maps of Takhli. I am getting ready to file for Herbicides Exposure. However, I too, do not have all the documents needed. I will appreciate you providing copies of the maps you have. My tour at Takhli 11/16/1965 - 11/13/1966 with 355 TFW and 354 Tac Ftr Sq.

I'm looking for flight records from Takhli to Tan Son Nhut during the time of Nov 1968- Dec 1969.

Robert McGowan flew classified top secret information from Takhli to Tan Son Nhut during this time period. Anyone remember him flying with a briefcase handcuffed to his wrist. They also carried cargo, on C-130's. He is fair, red hair and a slight built at that time. Probably went by the name Bob or maybe even Red. Anyone having any information that would help us please email me.

THEY HAVE NO RECORDS FOR FLIGHTS DEC 67 TO TAKHLI FOR TRAVIS AIR BASE.
I KNOW WE WENT TO SIGON ON ARE WAY OVER AND HAD ENGINE PROBLEMS AND HAD TO GET OFF THE PLANE
TO HAVE IT CHECKED.

Howie,my husband was stationed at Takhli from 67-68.He was with the 333rd TFS in US,was 355th at Takhli.He was crew cheif on F105's don't know number.He bunked with Staff SGT. Hall.Looking for flight records and buddy letter.

I was stationed at Takhli from August of 1968 to August of 1969. I also went to Hamilton AFB for M16 training. Then we flew from Travis AFB to Toyko to refuel. Then from Toyko to Bangkok. Then we flew on a C-130 to Takhli.

I too am looking for the flight records to Takli AFB in 1967 June. Took m-16 training at Ft Hamilton then left from Travis. Our plane developed problems in flight and we landed in Hawaii for repairs which took about 8 hours. We the landed at Clark AFB for more repairs. We sat in the terminal for I believe 8-10 hours. Finally got fixed and left for Bangkok. Developed more problems and had to land at Saigon. We then changed planes and finally left for Bangkok. Spent 3 days there waiting for a C-130 up country.
I am currently in the process of claiming a BOG
benefit but they say I need to show proof of actually being in Saigon. I have my orders but nothing that says anything about the stops in between Travis and Bangkok. Any help with anything would be much appreciated

It has been a long time since we connected. I hope you were able to take care of your mother. The photos are very useful. However, I am still looking for flight records from Takahli. I departed on 13 Nov 1966. I final received my military record from St Louis but there were no record flight records.
