I have been waiting 19 months for the Oakland VA to process my Herbicide caim from exposure while station at Takhli, my claim was very clear and concise done by a very good VSO, just got a letter from the Oakland VA asking for proof of "boots on the ground" in Vietnam or Korea, I guess the extra training the Oakland VA received this last June did not include how to read. I will not give up. Mike Chapin

Michael, If you read the CHECO REPORT, you do not have to have boots on the ground to be awarded for herbicide exposure. There have been several awards by the VA for those of us stationed in Thailand. As long as your illness is one of those listed by the VA, you can claim it due to exposure. My claim goes back a few years, and I have yet to be awarded. I recently recieved my benefits handbook which clearly stated that I am a herbicide exposed veteran. I never had boots on the ground. So, why I have not been awarded at this point, I do not know. Keep at them, and send buddy letters or any other material that shows your AFSC put you at a location on base that exposed you to herbicides, Good luck. Be persistant!!!!!!!
