I was stationed at Tonopah AFS when John and Russ crashed. I witnessed the crash and have pictures of the F-105 (tail # WC 324) taken immediately afterwards. Contact roconnor@yahoo.com

Interesting to find this. Russ passed away in May of 2006. After his crash at Tonapah, following a missile-caused crash at Takhli and a mechanical caused crash while at Takhli, the joke was that the pilots had to be blindfolded so they wouln't know he was in their back seat. He went to pilot training from Nellis and the pilots there said they got up a petition so they wouldn't have to take a chance on flying with him behind them anymore.
