I was in that unit from Nov 71-Nov 72. That was a long time ago and to be honest I don't remember your uncle's name. Was he in the Air Force? Did you know his AFSC and rank? I was a SSGT at the time. I imagine you know that the unit was a bunch of NCO's helping to support the war in Laos. 4802 JLD was a name given to the CIA activity that controlled operations in both Laos and Thailand. The station chief was a man named Pat Landry. I worked in logistics and My boss was a CIA logistics person who ran stock control and the warehouses. His name was Charlie Dooley. I remember there were other Air Force personnel in Transportation, a Photo- ops guy, a Tsgt who maintained station equipment all over Thailand and Laos. There were no military officers in Udorn that we reported to. There was a Major in JUSTMAGTHAI in Bangkok that administratively controlled us. If you have any questions, please ask and I will answer if I can.
I was going through my grandfathers scrap book from when he was in the CIA during Nam times and I kept seeing “Laos” and and DET-3 patches and I couldn’t stop wondering why he was so into Laos until I searched this up and found you response. This uncovered a lot of family history for us because he was quite covert at the time. Maybe you even knew him at the time?
