Re: Direct exposure to herbicides @ Takhli 12/66 - 12/67
Yes, Suspect they will take their time and come back with a negative. The recently declassified "Project CHECO" documents (which I sent in to VA this past Jan) gave installation Commanders plenty of leeway to use them on/around the perimeters of ALL Thai bases, for proper security/defense. The BVA asked them before to verify "tactical" herbicides were used/stored and/or tested at Takhli, during Jan-Dec 1967, and of course they said negative. Now the BVA has asked them to verify for the month of Dec 1966, which is when I arrived at Takhli (12/66 - 12/67). BTW, some think that the term "tactical herbicides" was coined by Alvin Young, and he may have found it in an Army Manual 3-3, and used it in a 2006 contract with DOD. Also one of the VA's own documents reflects that the VA thinks the herbicides used on Thai bases may have been tactical. Found it on the internet, but don't have ready access at this time.
