Agent Orange"
Ken, There is a VA c&p memo in regards to herbicide use in Thailand. It says that the herbicides used may have been one of the rainbow herbicides (blue, orange, white, ect.). Or it could have been a strong mix of normal weed killers. We are talking the 60's and so environmental issues were not a big deal (if the label says to use 4 oz per acre 40 or 400 oz's will do a better job). Not that it was right or wrong it was just the mindset back then. And some commander wanted the jungle dead NOW! You can find the c&p memo if you search the va web page. Unlike vn you have to prove you had direct contact to herbicides. Tuff sell to the va. That said, the memo does say troops that can prove they worked on or near the perimeter of the base anytime during the war should be presumed to have been exposed. The troops that were on the perimeter by mos would be sp’s. Takhli was a small base and in 66-67 I think the perimeter was very close to any where on base. If you have one of the ao diseases I would advise you to do all the research you can. Try to prove contact on or near the perimeter. Visit a vso and take the c&p memo with you. It may be the first time the vso has seen it. If the vso gives you the “boots on the ground in vn” speech, go find a new vso. Good luck.
