Does anyone remember the name of the squadron commander of the 42nd TEWS in Feb 1970? My dad died while I was there and the squadron commander was great to me. After I had been to the Red Cross office to get the news I went to the orderly room to get my orders for emergency leave. It was almost 5:00 so the clerks were getting ready to close the office. I told them what I needed and they said to come back the next morning since it was closing time. About that time the commander walked out of his office and heard what was going on and told the clerks to stay late and get me my orders. I went back to my barracks to get my things together and when I got back to the orderly room the commander told the clerks to call down to the flight line to see if the afternoon supply plane had come in yet. It was on the ground so he told them to hold the plane since I was going to be on it when it took off. After that he put me in his pickup truck and drove me (a A1C) down to the flight line to catch the plane. He probably got me home at least a day earlier because of his actions.
I don't remember his name, but I'll never forget what he did for me that afternoon. Thanks!
