Dear Brothers and Sisters of TLC,
It is with a heavey heart that I share such news. A few evenings ago, we lost someone who was a TLC founding member, brother, and a dear friend. Dick Anderson passed away in his sleep late in the evening on December 14th. I’d been in contact with Dick over the past few weeks, as he was improving from his leukemia treatments. He’d asked me for a special prayer for his final test, and responded later to let me know it had come back normal. Paul Lees confirmed that Dick had beaten the leukemia and he was really feeling good. But, he had been having heart problems for years and he was diabetic. Dick was truly a fighter to the last. The last email that Dick sent to me on Dec. 10th, was titled, “Where’s the line to see Jesus?” Dick no longer waits in line; he rests in the arms of his Savior at peace.
Please join me in prayer for Dick and his family.
Eternal God,
Your love is stronger than death, and your passion more fierce than the grave. We commend to you our brother, Dick Anderson and entrust him to your loving care. We pray for the Anderson family, especially, Cheryl, his widow and his daughters, Becky and Angie. Bring your loving comfort to them, and to all who are in a time of need. Look with pity on us in times of worry, trouble, and sorrow. Remember us in mercy; strengthen us in patience; comfort us with the memory of your goodness; let your presence shine on us, and grant us peace. Help us, as we wait this Advent for the coming of Your son, Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord. Amen.
I encourage everyone to post their memories of Dick on TLC.
This is what Paul Lees had to say about his best friend.
Dick was stationed at NKP in '69 - '70 assigned to the 23rd TASS. He was an engine mechanic on the OV-10s. His boss was another member of the TLCB Kermit Wilkins and they remained good friends. On Dicks second enlistment he was a jet engine instructor but didn't like it much and got out of the AF with eight years.
He settled in his home town of Massillon. I didn't connect with Dick until the summer of '97 when we exchanged letters. In October '97 he and Cheryl stopped by our home in Fredericksburg, VA on their way to N. Carolina, their favorite vacation spot. It was an instant bound. Since that time we kept in touch with phone calls and a ton of emails, several times a week for years.
Dick was very dedicated to his family and would do anything for them. He loved them very much. He worked as an engineer with an air craft wheel and brake company until his retirement. He looked forward to the day’s time he could spend in his shop. He could take a pile of wood and make fantastic things.
The story of how Dick and I met is on the TLC web site along with postings of mine. Dick, Kermit and Jim Young were on the first trip to the Wall for what became the TLCB. It is under the section titled, The Wall.
The picture is one of Dick at NKP that he had given Paul.
I have sent a card from Ed, myself, and TLC, to Cheryl and the family, but I'm sure they'd love to hear your memories and condolences.
