This is NOT a sale, it is a search for preferably one or two individuals or organizations willing to haul away and preserve these artifacts at no charge. All were collected on public land and were abandoned by logging railroad companies about 140 years ago, mostly in Lake and Newaygo Counties, Mich. No strings attached except please do not sell for scrap iron. They will be yours to sell or give to other collectors, add to your private collection, donate to a historical preservation group, etc. This is not a scam or data-mining project, but I need to get it all removed this summer, the earlier the better. This is not a pick and choose scavenger hunt, a respondent must agree to take all or a at least a large bulk of items, I don’t have time for pickers to dig and choose a few pieces. After all, no charge means you can take, sell or donate items anyway you choose. I will not do any handling, packing or shipping, you come and haul it away!
I don’t expect any compensation except knowing that the articles will be preserved and enjoyed by others, not melted for scrap. I can send photos to any serious parties. I prefer someone to take it ALL and do with it what they want. Probably over 1000 pounds of items, many rail pieces, strap iron, 10, 12,18, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40 or more pound rail sections (1/2 to 12 foot sections trimmed when they replaced broken rails) plus hundreds of other items such as axe heads, horseshoes and grading tools (shovel heads, adzes, pickaxes, cant hooks, mattocks etc., an early aautomatic coupler. several link-and-pin couplings, various brake shoes, and plenty of other items. Plus lots and lots of sizes of spikes, rail joiners and hardware used on track some 140 years ago.
You will never see an offer like this again! It all will go somewhere by fall, hopefully very soon. First come, first get – no reservations!
Serious inquiries only, I will supply them with photos to prove my statements..
