The Incan Superior was the last railroad carferry to operate on the open lakes. Its last run was on 11-19-92. It operated between Superior WI and Thunder Bay ON from 1974 to 1992. It did not operate during the winter months once Lake Superior iced over.
However, ferrying of railroad cars across the Detroit and St. Clair Rivers lasted for a few years later, until April 1994 between Detroit and Windsor, and until April 1995 between Port Huron and Sarnia.
