Re: GR&I GR Division
Back in the late 1970's I used to travel up to Mackinac City twice yearly to make sales calls on Christmas tree farms in the area. They would ship boxcars of cut trees down to Texas via the Katy (I worked as a sales rep for the Katy out of Dearborn, MI). I would stay at a Ramada Inn outside of town, within sight of the dock for the Chief Wawatam and would sometimes be able to watch the ferry being switched. My next travel location was to Cadillac to visit the Michigan Northern staff office. Traffic on the GR&I was pretty light in those years, but at least there was 2 trains to Mack City and back each week. Good memories! Thanks for posting the article.
