I love everything about this Mark Hinsdale shot at Lake Odessa from the 1970's! I can even imagine myself on that bicycle as a kid taking in all the sights and sounds as this westbound thunders out of a steep grade with throttle in 8th notch and horn blaring for the road crossing (which sports some vintage flasher lights!) The train is exiting train order territory and about to enter CTC control at the east end of Lake Odessa siding. When the caboose (markers) pass the depot, the operator will OS its passing to the dispatcher in Grand Rapids who will then scrawl his initials over the order in his train order book "Eng 4209 run extra Ensel to Lake Odessa" to indicate that the order has been fulfilled. Not sure which symbol we see here, but with those auto related cars on the head end, it could be either MR13 or CW15 out of Flint. (Photo credit Mark Hinsdale).
