A local is working on the Mt Clemens Sub at New Haven in the mid 60's. Love the whole scene, including the train order signal! My three favorite Michigan railroads were C&O/GTW/Ann Arbor in that order, and the green/gold scheme is my first recollection of the GTW. I lived too far away from this location, but back in the 60's I would ride my bike to the depot at Drayton Plains on the Holly Sub and spend many hours there taking in the freight and passenger train action. Once I could drive, I was all up and down that line (Holly was a fav spot) and got to ride the engine a few times to Detroit and Durand from Pontiac. I actually tried to hire on the GTW in 1970 but they were full-up on operators at the time, so I wrote to the C&O chief in Saginaw and was put to work right away! PHOTO CREDIT: MARK HINSDALE.
