Re: Port Huron tonnage
I don't have any actual figures, but the majority of the train was floated to Sarnia for movement to the Niagara gateway or Sarnia chemical business, or interchanged to the PH&D (salt cars, for example). I don't recall exactly which customers we still had in Port Huron proper. The times I worked at Port Huron were as an operator in the yard office by the ferry slip, along with the yardmaster and a clerk. Most of what I did was teletype (later card punch) of ferry trips to/from Sarnia, and building the consist to send of the outbound train to Saginaw as well as copying outbound train orders. We also did the interchange reports. The agent over in the depot at that time handled local customers. I think at one time there were still a couple of customers across the Black River bridge, and one just west of Tappan.
