In the early 1960's I was at the Kalamazoo depot when an eastbound NYC passenger train pulled in. Usually the little tractor appeared from the depot with one baggage wagon but that day it had three in tow. The baggage car door opened and the baggage man started handing out small boxes, maybe 12 by 15 by 4 inches high, with screens on top. They worked steadily until they completely filled all three wagons. Just as they finished an Upjohn truck approached. It was then I figured out all those boxes contained white mice for laboratory use testing medicine at Upjohn. When railfanning you never know what to expect.
