I read the whole thing...kinda' interesting...even in 1971 this line was doomed by the way they hand picked certain areas to study...at any rate, there wasn't any abandonment happening for another 13 years, and within that time frame, the Michigan Northern and it's infamous "flag out rates" gave new life into the ferry and the line from Trout Lake to St Ignace to Mac to Grand Rapids. Let's also not forget that with the failure of Penn Central, Detroit and Mackinaw finally got to Mackinaw, and also enjoyed some time switching the Wawatam. Alas, not to stay busy for long, this whole line and the ferry disappeared into railroad heaven.
