There was a question awhile back on the Lower board regarding power on the PH&D coal trains. We usually tried to line up 3 GP35 or smaller units (when available) on these trains out of Saginaw. They may very well have come in with larger units out of Walbridge. As far as 6-axle units on the PH Sub, when I started dispatching in 1976 they were not allowed. However, by the time the next timetable came out (1981) they were allowed with the only restriction not to operate on the Mayville passing siding. (They were prohibited division-wide on any industrial tracks back then). That being said, I don't recall really using 6-axles to Port Huron. They usually went south out of Saginaw, or west to Ludington or GR via Baldwin. To my knowledge during my time, there was never any restriction specific to the Mill Creek bridge. However, not too long after I left CSX in 1988 it must have become an issue since they chose to abandon that part of the line and operate from Flint over GTW.
