According to the map posted the tank farm site was part of the original Foss yard.
I had a relative in 1927 killed in that yard rushing to get a train on the road during the beginning of a snowstorm. Hand signals were misinterpreted resulting in being pinned between cars.
The tank farm would have been built on the east 1/3rd of Foss yard and may have included a dock as there is certainly an unused one there now about 200yds east of the swingbridge.
The map shows Michigan Chrmical Co. across the street to the south on woodside which there is zero evidence of that today with newer buildings built there however the map and the present land layout strongly sugfest a track crossed there but would have gone through those buildings.
The sugar plant was gone to the east in Essexville along the river by late 1920s about the time the Pere Marquette was sold off.
The Foss yard certainly was a major pivot point for incoming and outgoing railcars for the sugar plant and other long gone industry along the river on the south side of the swingbridge.
Im wondering if this may become a transload facility for grain and other products to generate new business???
