I-475"
I recall I-475 being constructed and opened in three separate sections. North and then south, or maybe south and then north, came first. These in the early 1970's. The middle section, which is where the old GTW main was located, about 10 years later. GTW had a freight house in downtown Flint, which closed in the early/mid-1970's. Service between Saginaw and Harrison likely ended then. I think the last customer in the Vernon/Franklin area was the paper company, the name of which escapes me. They got service until the late 1970's, I believe. Steve knows the details better than I do, including whether the presence of the old GTW main played any role in the middle section of I-475 opening last.
