Not ever served by rail...now the rest of the story...when I was in jr high and senior high school, that particular gravel pit went by the name "Shanks Gravel Pit"....was a big company at one time, but all loads were trucked out. It also was a big popular spot for teens to sneek in at night time, party, and skinny dip. Of course, since some of the pits were over 50 feet deep, and full of water, there was an unusual amount of drownings there. Over time, the pit got a bad reputation, and I can't say whether there were ever any law suits filed over the drowned individuals, but, the pit closed. Someone with some money bought the place, and turned it into what it is today, a popular summer RV resort with good fishing and swimming. That means of course, that it requires property owners and annual fees to stay there to boot....My former in-laws had a real nice place there right on the water, prior to their departure from this earth. There are around 400 lot sites there.
