Some of the Detroit, Lansing and Northern Annual Reports are available through google. From those, there was also an engine house and scale at Chippewa Lake. The purpose of the branch was lumber(big surprise there...not).
An online search shows the Grand Rapids Public Library collection includes an 1884 timetable. That could show what railroad facilities were at Chippewa Lake, specifically turning facilities.
