Also of interest, to me anyway, was finding an entire PRR passenger timetable (PDF) online that shows that you could still board a 12 sections, dwg room sleeper on #500-200 at 9:30PM for a 10PM departure for Cincinnati in the summer of 1952. Did not know that type of service was still available then.
Consequently, what I'm guessing what you may have seen if it was in daylight was a Sperry inspection car. They looked like doodlebugs in those days. Painted yellow if I remember right.
