* From 1901 to 1903 the Solvay Process Co performed switching to other plants, then the allowance was stopped. They
then transferred some track and equipment to the new Delray Connecting RR.
* the Delray Connecting RR was Incorporated March 24, 1904 as the common carrier plant railroad of Allied Chemical's Semet-Solvay division (Solvoy Process Co.)
* On June 29 (also reported as July 1) 1904 Delray Connecting Railroad completed a 2.16 mile mainline from Delray to the Detroit Southern RR (which later merged into the DT&I) on Zug Island. Also has 12.2 miles of yard and siding track.
* On May 15, 1915 Delray Connecting RR received trackage rights of 9.73 miles over the DT&I to Trenton, to reach the Sibley Quarry (now owned by Detroit Edison and used to dispose of flyash from their Trenton Channel plant). The limestone from Trenton was needed for the Solvay process, which creates by-products from coking, such as coal tar and ammonia
* In December of 1948 it dieselized with 5 Alco locomotives.
* On June 27, 1968 National Steel Corporation purchased the Delray Connecting RR from Solvoy Process, a subsidiary of Allied Chemical Corporation. It had 15 miles of track.
* On Jan. 9, 2003 United States Steel Corp. reached an agreement to acquire substantially all of National Steel Corp.'s steelmaking and finishing assets for $950 million, and the assumption of $200 million in liabilities. U.S. Steel also would acquire National Steel subsidiary Delray Connecting Railroad Co., a 15-mile Detroit-based short line.
* On October 18, 2005 the Delray Connecting Railroad was transferred from US Steel ownership to Transtar, Inc. Transtar (itself a subsidiary of USS Corp that was created in 1988 ) also owns the Elgin Joliet & Eastern, the Birmingham Southern, the Lake Terminal Connecting Railway, the McKeesport Connecting Railroad and the Union Railroad. The Delray Connecting RR operates 15.46 miles of track.
* On Cctober 1, 2006 The Delray Connecting began performing the hot metal shuttle move from Zug Island to the BOP (Basic Oxygen Process) shop.
