Ren, The mighty Mac was NOT design for rail, back in the late 40s and early 1950s when they started planning the bridge the Mackinac Bridge authority approached the Pennsylvania Railroad and the Soo Line about going in on the design of a railroad track to be built under the deck of the roadway. Without getting in to a long story the Pennsylvania Railroad was all for it, and unfortunately the Soo Line did not want to foot the expense of half the cost. The bridge weight limit is 128,000 lbs that is why the B trains or so called super trains have to drop the pups and take there leads to either side and drop them and return to retrieve there pups. I know this for I have done this many many times.
