Real steam was operating in the Copper Country over the Holiday weekend. This train is at the Houghton County Museum at Lake Linden. The engine is a 36" gauge 0-4-0 Porter formerly used by Calumet & Hecla. They have a 0.4 mile circular track at the museum. For some reason they were not operating over a wooden trestle that is at the east quadrant of the circle, so they were running up to either side of the trestle, and running backwards for half of the trip. That is why there is a rear brakeman riding on the flatcar at the rear. The engineer, fireman, and brakeman changed seats and duties after every trip.
These photos were taken on the evening of July 3rd, prior to the fireworks later that night. The fireworks didn't start until 10:45PM, since it doesn't get dark in the summer up there until very late in the evening.
