Re: Status of Park Falls, WI to Ashland, WI?
Though not really Michigan RR subject matter (I hope the moderator doesn't object) The CN run's north of Park Falls Monday-Friday as needed. There's not much traffic north of Park Falls. There are a couple of infrequent shippers in Mellen (wood products and pulpwood) Ashland has pulpwood landing or two in the old Soo Line Ore Yard and there's a tie chipper in the old C&NW ore yard.
I've got lots of pictures of the line posted here- http://www.flickr.com/photos/32431640@N03/
The physical plant is in pretty good shape and the trains move right along. A new operator would be able to increase car loadings significantly as the CN under E.Hunter Harrison worked hard to run off all of the small shippers.
