Re: Amtrak service Disaster 18 hours
One time we were headed from KAL to CHI. Lead engine (GE Genesis series) died several times. Seemed like we were stuck most of the time around Lawton. Amtrak crew announced they were having difficulty getting the lead/trailing engine to sync together. As they restarted it (that lead engine) over and over, sounded like an old Soviet Russian, not modern USA engine. Similar sound to this video...
Right at the beginning where a diesel engine is started.
Fortunately we made it to Chicago only an hour late, so still made it to our flight out of O'Hare in time.
I would NOT have enjoyed being stuck on Amtrak, miss the flight!
