...CSX leases the Plymouth Sub to Lake State. CP seeks to take their trains off NS and back on the Plymouth/Grand Rapids Subs but also seeks to buy a share of the route leading to a Class 1/Class 2 jointly owned main line or simple trackage rights (which LSRC, I imagine would offer at a cheaper rate than NS). With the additional backing of CP, the 2 railroads invest in upgrading the track work to 110 MPH for Amtrak service, allowing for the Pere Marquette to run between Chicago and Detroit via GR for the first time in decades.
With all that, the train count of the Plymouth and GR Subs receive a sharp increase as well as train speeds between 2 very different railroads: a consistently busy Class 1 and an ever-growing regional seeking to add new/revive old business which has garnered 2 major city connections in one fell swoop, one of which expands their presence outside the state in Chicago of all places.
Oh, and you have daily high speed passenger service connecting Michigan's 2 biggest cities once again. I can dream...
