In Chessie days, a rested Saginaw crew at Walbridge would handle the train straight to Saginaw. That crew would not be allowed to go further by Union agreements. We called a "short-turnaround" (STA) crew off the extra board at Saginaw to handle the coal to BC (same to go retrieve the empties, when ready). We called them as STA because if they still had time left on hours of service after returning from BC, we could send them out within 25 miles of Saginaw (e.g. to maybe Birch Run or Freeland, etc) to handle a dead train if necessary into Saginaw. That didn't happen often, though.
