The answer is yes.
We stopped in Pinconning and watched the north train out of Bay City split at the east west switch.the first half pulled north into town and the second half went east for Alpena.
The first half that pulled north recrewed in town and had two LSRS engines and the Soo for power. They proceeded north on the Gaylord line and stopped to switch the grain elevator in Standish while we enjoyed rootbeer floats at the A&W and then watched the train head north to Gaylord.
That was around 5:30pm and got word that same train arrived in Gaylord around 8:45pm. Not sure how many more stops it made or what the track speed is.
They are rebuilding many crossings on both east and west legs and lots of MOW toys in the team track siding in downtown Pinconning. Several pieces were duplicates suggesting multiple track crews instead of just one set. Lots of ties dropped. Thousands actually.
Really looks like they are bringing tracks up to par for expected heavy use. Who knows with a small army of salesmen to generate new and former customers we may be in for some exciting times.
Would love to see some engines painted up in heritage colors to represent what once was. The Soo would sure look nice with some touch up and stenciled LSRS under the cab window along with a NYC engine, D&M and PM all on represented engines pounding the rails on active duty once again.
