Re: LSRC Train 127 (08/09/19)
It's amazing how a siding in the right place can make such a big difference. Prior to the upgrades of 1978, there was no "usable" siding at Lincoln, no controlled-signaled siding at Novi, and the S. Pass at Plymouth was much shorter. So, if a southbound was working at Lincoln (an hour+ to make a pick up), northbounds had to wait at Plymouth, Wayne, and even Romulus. Sometimes you even had a train waiting east or west of Plymouth to come around. With the No 1 siding at Lincoln, they leave their train, cut off power and go up No 2 pass and into the yard to make their pick up, and in the meantime you could be running other trains up and down the main. (The upgraded controlled and lengthened siding at Grand Blanc wrought the same benefits). I realize that with today's light traffic it all seems so redundant, but back then it was a godsend.
