Generally speaking, when a DP unit loses com, it continues to do what it was told to until it regains com. If it senses a major change in trainline air pressure, it will go to idle, but there is no situation I know of offhand where loss of com will trigger an emergency application from the DP. That being said, we know that com will be lost in the tunnel, and I seem to remember reading instructions about how to deal with it. Can't find it right off in the rule book, so it must have been a CATS message. Anyway... I haven't had the oppertunity to take a DP train through the tunnel yet, but I think I'd put the fence up, and let the DP idle through the tunnel. If the DP was in a high throttle setting when com was lost, and they were throttling down exiting the tunnel, I can see where there could have been potential for some severe run in of slack. But that's just brain droppings from the peanut gallery at this point. Bill
