When CA30/SA31 were still running (late 70's-early 80's), we were still doing a very sizable interchange with the DT&I at Carleton. As you may be aware, there used to be a 4-track yard there and the DT&I would deliver 50-80 cars from Flat Rock every night which were switched out by our local out of Monroe on the 3rd shift. There was a block for Wayne, as well as Plymouth north, GR and Detroit cars. (The Lincoln Secondary back then still belonged to Conrail). Not really sure why the Holly local never started from McGrew. On occasion, if the afternoon Toledo train out of McGrew (TL54) had light traffic, we would forward coal mtys or grain loads on the Holly Local out of Saginaw to set out at McGrew for TL54, and then the local would go about its normal business, including interchange for the GTW at Holly. A very long time ago, the local also made a side trip to Otisville as required.
