The reason that it worked into a romance had to do with the extraordinary talent of the actors and their amazing chemistry. Without that, the whole thing would have fallen flat. They did not anticipate it, but once they recognized it, they had to write around it. It was lightning in a bottle. It stands the test of time...still as captivating as ever. Times have changed. The perception of date rape has changed, but chemistry doesn't change. It is or it isn't.
