You could feel the pain from both Genie and Maurice. Genie is, like us, heartbroken that she didn't get the chance to work with him one last time. I hope she takes solace in the fact that very, very few actor can say they had 25+ years worth of the most extraordinary, soulful, profound, entertaining and deeply moving work to stand as a legacy. Tony and Genie had months where they produced more work together than most of the great film pairings saw across their entire careers.
I hurt for her, as the regret is palpable that she'd been out of touch and didn't get the chance to truly say goodbye. But it's obvious that, based off the dream she had, their souls met out there, somwhere, and said "see you later" to each other. Tony was absolutely right when he said that they are artistic soulmates. There will never be a pair like them again.
