Remember the days when so many of us chose to fight for Genie to even be let back in the door for short contracts.
How times change! I never take Genie's presence on this show for granted; its such a gift. I'm surprised more people aren't posting about Laura on this site after we all begged to have her back. I guess a lot of people lost interest in keeping up with the show after Tony retired. Previous Message
Yes writers have let Laura spread her wings. Here she is as Mayor and has a loving relationship with her husband. They finally brought back the Spencer children Lucky and Lulu. They portray her as a strong no nonsense person as well as a loving wife and Mother. She gets Summers off now without Jill Farren Phelps threatening to fire her. Genie has earned her place on GH as the iconic character Laura !!!! Previous Message
Now mind you I’m about 3 years behind, but until 2022 at least I really love so much of what the GH writers have given Laura.
It always maddened me when so many GH writers struggled to write Laura as a fully fleshed character outside of Luke and their romance. She’s such a dynamic, strong character, perfectly cast with one of the best Daytime actors ever; it’s a no brainer.
I love Laura as the mayor. And not an off screen one, but one who is actually connected to most of the canvas and is actively show doing her job. You can tell Laura really adores the people of Port Charles.
For decades I wanted Laura to have her family side from Gordon fleshed out. I couldn’t figure out why nobody mined that obvious ground. Cyrus and Martin are far more interesting than I ever imagined and played by such top talent.
I also wanted a Ryan Chamberlain story involving Laura, and that too came to pass.
Genie really seems to be having a ball. Laura is still herself, just matured and stronger and healthier than ever. After so many years of being robbed of her presence, it’s amazing still to me that she’s on the show, long term and actually getting story and screen time.
