Now that I’m just at the end of my career, I sit back and remember the absolutely great things I got to do and am immeasurably blessed. Sure, there were avenues I really wanted to pursue in the course of my career that just weren’t mine to be. I was sad and somewhat bitter when I lost opportunities, but now that it’s all said and done, I’m just grateful for what DID come my way.
And in the end, Tony has his life in Amsterdam which I believe checks many of the boxes for him. I would bet he’s in a time where he’s simply thankful for his amazing life and all the groundbreaking things he did accomplish in his career! He surely deserves to be most proud of all that he did create!!
And, so, by the way I’m gainfully, officially retired, so when COVID finally goes away, I think an LnL reunion of some sort would be great. It would be so wonderful to meet some of you, catch up with others and share LnL memories and memorabilia! If that happens, anywhere, anytime, please count me in!!! 😊
We were all handed a gift when Tony was cast as Luke. This extraordinary actor was basically undiscovered and hanging on by a thread until this character fell into his lap. From the very first day he appeared on GH, I sat up and took notice because he virtually lit up the stage. It was like plugging in a Christmas tree. There is something magical about casting an actor to a role. It has happened many times, but on GH, it happened simultaneously with Genie Francis and Tony Geary. Of course, some of it was the writing, but most of it was their unique chemistry together and the casting of them in the roles of Luke and Laura.
So much of a character on a soap is due to an actor's interpretation of that role. The director plays a very small part because there is little time to shoot scenes. In addition, the actor gets to know the character better than the director. So, the only conclusion is that Tony and Genie made decisions with Gloria Monty as to how these characters would be established, and then she let them run with it. Bits of their personalities crept into these characters, but as be know, these were real people playing roles. They were very different from the characters they played. They had their hopes and dreams and lives to think about.
Tony might never have realized the full range of his acting challenges, but he sure had a memorable career, and he got the financial stability that many stars don't have no matter how many films or plays they do. I just wish we could have another chance to see them together again. I just would like a "off into the sunset" ending for Luke and Laura.
Its sad in a way he never got to fulfill those dreams of being a movie star. He achieved stardom but not the respected acting roles he hoped for. I was glad he wasn't acting all wired up and crazy in this interview. He seemed relaxed and honest
I don't remember ever seeing this interview.. interesting w/ hindsight.
