Tony was Tall, thin, hairline receding and not your soap opera type hunk. But, he had so much charisma, he wore the most hip clothes for that day, the disco duds fit him perfectly. I think it was his angst he portrayed over Laura. Once his hair was longer and permed he took on a whole new look and persona. He was the ultimate disco king on the dancefloor, confident with the women, except for Laura who he didn't think he ever had a chance with but had such longing for her we all felt for him. His portrayal of the lovestruck Luke took over every scene and we fell under his spell. I don't know if it could ever be explained to today's generation I think you had to see it in real time.
I just saw slicker last night. He was introducing Luke to a forger to forge the Ice Princess boundry map. Luke: How you doing? Forger: I got this pain in my lower back. Slick: Hey, this isn't the Mayo clinic. whats wrong with you? So damn funny. He was great
I have been rewatching 79-81...am still amazed at how entertaining it still is 40 years later...
I normally watch at night, on my phone with my Airpods, but happened to have it on our TV one afternoon...daughter (almost 18), walks in...
Her - "What on earth are you watching??"
Me - "You are not allowed to ruin my trip down memory lane, so just keep on walking by!
Her - "What is the age difference between them?
"He isn't very attractive" (rude I know)
So I explain that although he may not have been the typical "hunk", it was his charm and charisma that contributed to giving him his sex appeal.(IMO)
I also went on to stress that she should really watch the story from the beginning to fully appreciate the characters. (so maybe I will have recruited another young fan)
It is still so disappointing that the ending for this couple is not what we had hoped for. (TPTB, the awful rewrites, etc)
Are we like kids who refuse to accept their parents divorce? Yes I suppose we are, this show is an escape for some and we need to witness a happily ever after.
On a side note...I have to say that my favorite supporting actor/character is hands down..Eddie Ryder as Slick Jones! I can't say enough about how much I enjoy him in scenes...so comical
