I'm going to be honest, from a fan perspective, we should probably be grateful that JFP went to Y&R and fired Genie. She was literally back at GH less than 4 months later, in time for the major 50th anniversary celebration. Frank gave her a six month contract, which was the longest contract anyone had offered her at ABC since the late 90s at that point.
None of this would've happened if she stayed on Y&R. And while Frank (or someone higher than him) made a mistake in taking her off contract, they did quickly reverse course and give her a very good contract once the outrage happened. And now, with her current contract, she has one of the highest episode guarantees of any actor at the studio.
But under Frons and JFP no amount of cries for Laura, no amount of fan campaigns, no amount of threats to boycott, moved them an inch. They were determined to never have Genie back full time, and they stuck to that.
