In our discussion of James Ingram/Baby Come To Me, it occurred to me one of the most neglected aspects of GH is the show’s influence on the music charts back in the day.
Herb Albert’s “Rise” and “Rotation” were central to Luke and Laura’s early days.
I would argue “Think of Laura” was a much bigger hit for Christopher Cross thanks to its inclusion in Genie’s much hyped 1983 return.
And there may be no better example of the show’s influence than “Baby, Come To Me.” It went nowhere on the charts until Gloria put it on the show. It was re-released and shot to Number 1!
Years later, “Miami Vice” would famously incorporate modern music into the show but was GH not breaking ground here?
Not to mention the show made legit pop stars out of Rick Springfield and Jack Wagner.
Hard to imagine that today. And a testament to the influence that GH and LnL had on pop culture in the late 70s/early 80s
