The Kingston Trio did a show where they met the Everlys.
Dave liked their Gibson guitars.
So, he had Gibson make him a 12 string.
I don't think it was what he wanted and he had Gibson re-do it...maybe. I'm not sure of this.
Somehow, the guitar was damaged.
So, Dave got it fixed and it was painted black...
I don't know.
Anyway, I'd say around 2006, Dave's first wife had DAve's 12-string and she tied to sell it on eBay.
It was priced pretty high.
I don't know if she ever sold it.
Tom would know.
I have my own Everly story to tell.
I'd say that some time in the early 1980s....they Everlys hadn't been speaking to each other for some time.
They finally got back together and did a show in London that was on cable TV that was at Albert Hall.
I watched it.
Shortly after that ,,, they did their first show in the U.S. at an outdoor theater near me.
I tried to get our best friends to go to the show with us ...but, they didn't want to do it.
The morning of the show, I called them....my best buddy, Carlos finally gave in.
So, I called the show and got 4 tickets...to be picked up at Will Call.
We got the tickets at will call and went to our seats.
We kept going closer and cloer to the stage.
Our tickets were on the 2nd roe wight in fronto of Phil and Don.
This was in August and the place was hotter than hell.
After the 3rd song ... off came their jackets.
Their shirts were soaking wet.
It was a great show.
They got this famous guitar player from England to play the lead guitar parts ... his name isn't coming to me.
Many years later....the Trio did a show with them.
By then, Don and Phil were at it again.
GeorgeGrove said they had separate dressing rooms at opposite ends of the theater and wern't speaking to each other again.
